Monday FO's and WIP's

I guess I got lost.  Well actually I have been doing a log on YouTube, until here recently when they changed their policy.  Kinda bummed me a little.  Im sure I'll snap out of it sooner or later.  I have to for the adVANture hubby and I are going on this year.  I want to bring ALL of you along, I just don's have room to physically take you all, so I do plan to vlog it.  I'm super excited about it!  If you want to "go" with us go subscribe to my youtube channel.

Nearly New this week.....

I didn't actually acquire any new yarn/yarn related things this week, but I did recycle some yarn that was in a bag that was given to me.  It was a started project.  I unraveled it and rolled it and am using it for another project.

Don't ask what colors they are. The one on the left is a Caron brand the other one had no label.

I also purchased a Barbie doll.....you will see her below.

I have 2 finished objects this week.....

I crochet a Barbie dress (and hope to make many more) I have a cousin's daughter and a friend's daughter who were quite impressed that I made it.  I was too since it's been Soooooooo long since I had a barbie doll.  LOL!  It's a free Ravelry pattern.  Crochet Barbie Slip on Dress

I managed to finish one knit baby bootie.  It's more like a tube sock, but it's a start.  I have another one on needle and hope to actually have a matching pair.  This is also a free Ravelry pattern Newborn Baby Christmas Bootie Socks

We got a baby shower invite from some friends.  This is my gift to the new baby (providing I get a second one that matches)

Now for my WIPS

The second baby bootie/sock started on DPN's.  I kinda like dpn's.  My local knit friends think I'm crazy LOL!  Do you like dpn's?

I'm thinking these two wips will go together.  We shall see how they turn out.  I'm not really following a specific pattern.  I've combined a couple patterns and am experimenting I guess.

So there you have it.......That's what Ive been up to this past week.  Kinda in a yarn block.  Not really wanting to do anything but yet I am.  Make sense?  I'll be black to vlogging, soon as we get to working on the van for our adVANture.  I should be getting a squishy package in a week or two, so I will probably be vlogging that.  In the meantime, thanks for coming by here.  Leave me a comment below.  :-)

Free Kindle Reads 1/16/18

   

Hello!

It's been awhile.  I haven't been MIA, I've just been putting my time and effort into YouTube videos.  Boy do they take a lot of time.  If you'd like to check them out.....lots of yarn related videos.....Here's the LINK to my channel.  I think I still want to continue with my Monday Projects of the Week videos but I'm running out of content.  LOL!  So I hope to come back here and visit with you all for a spell again.

It's turned cold and winterization upstairs has started.  We have done a few new things so far this year.  I'll tell you about those in another post.  We haven't gotten the kerosene heater out yet, we have been able to keep it warm enough with just the space heaters so far.

I've been busy crocheting stocking hats for charity.  I talk about that in my Monday videos.  Our church has a free clothing exchange once a month as well as handling the coats for kids for the local assistance center.  People need hats too, right?

It's late and I'm tired but I'm looking forward to talking to you all again real soon.

HHM 9-11-2017

As I look outside my window:::

It's fairly cool right now but today's high is to be in the 80's. The sun is shining. Downtown is starting to wake up, businesses opening and getting ready for the day, cars going up and down Main Street.  The Lion's Club put out flags today for 9-11.  They look really pretty blowing in the breeze

Sitting here at the shop waiting on hubby to get back from a job, waiting on customers, watching my YouTube subscriptions and Praying this pinched nerve will hurry up and stop being pinched.

Currently Reading:::
still nothing on the kindle app
trying to get in the habit of reading my Bible every day.  Its a struggle

On my to do list today:::
1. Pay some bills
2. Finish up things for tomorrow's Cardinal Crawl at the local community college
3.  I brought the entrelac blanket to work on and I also have some bracelets to work in if I feel up to it
4.  fold and put clothes away
5.  anything else I feel up to doing without over-doing.  I'm trying to sorta rest.

Preparing for Fall weather:::
Since Hurricane Harvey came our temps haven't been too bad.  I'm not normally one to be excited about cooler weather but I am kinda looking forward to it because I want to wear some layers, my shawls that I have made, and I hope to make more shawls and hats and gloves, etc for my family and myself.  I'm also looking for a real reason to drink hot chocolate and hot coffee drinks.  Upstairs we have done some things over the summer, I should do a post about that I guess, that hopefully will help this winter be a wee bit warmer.

What I am crocheting:::

Well.....I haven't been able to do much lately because of time or this darn pinched nerve, but besides my ongoing WIPS I have been making crochet bracelets. (sorry for the play thing, it's not really a video it's a picture of the video).  I plan to make several of these and hopefully find some other patterns to hook up to sell at my store, Smelly Good Stuffs.

What I am wearing today:::

Jeans, blue Parsons Vikings t-shirt (local high school) and tennis shoes.  Hair in a pony tail and I'm wearing a hdaeband.

Something I Recently Made:::

an order for yarn online.......AND I have finally got set up to do what I originally wanted to do!  I am now set up with Ice Yarns to resell their yarn.  I have a Facebook Group that I set up to sell on for now.  You are welcome to join.  I hope to have yarn to list in about a week.

If at First You Don't Succeed......

Try, try again! Yup! I did and I'm hoping for success. The Craftsy thing just isn't going to do for me because there seems to not be any real perks with being an affiliate. BUT I finally did get set up with Ice Yarn to be a reseller. I must say there is a learning curve to getting the best deal when you purchase from them to resell. I'm still learning but I'm hoping to place my first order on Monday after I deposit some money into the bank to transfer to my PayPal account. I have created a facebook group, for anyone who wants to join, to sell the yarn on. if you would like to join you can do so HERE.

I do currently have ONE items for sale on the FB Group.  It was a trial order.  By the way Ice Yarn is amazing!  I have used it a couple times and have really liked it!

Nomad Thoughts ~~ Travel Trailers

Travel Trailers....such a broad term.  Travel trailers in this post are pretty much inclusive for any pull behind trailer: travel trailers, 5th wheels, pop-up campers, and toy haulers.  Are 4 are common type.  For the most part I do not want a pull behind, however there are a couple exceptions that I will explain in a bit.   Overall I don't think pull behind trailers look very sturdy.  You have everything you own rolling on 2-4 little bitty wheels.  In my case, I would have to buy a heavy duty truck to go along with it (added expense).  Would have to have insurance on both the trailer and the truck.    Depending on what type of travel, new price ranges between $8,000 and $100,000.  Another downside for me, is from something I read recently.  Should there be trouble while you are camping, like storms or uninvited guests (as in humans looking to be malicious) you are kinda in a pinch for getting away easily.  For example the article I read, a young lady was "boondocking" (camping out in the boonies away from anything and no or spotty cell service) and she had an instance with several people coming around in the wee early morning hours banging on her door, throwing her things around outside, etc.  She wasn't sure who they were or why they were even there.  She had little or no cell service and wasn't able to call for help.  Once they left and she felt it safe to get out of there, she still had to leave the safety of he trailer and hook it to her vehicle and pull out of there.....in the middle of the night.  No thank you.  That is way too scary to even think about for me! Now, for the 2 exceptions to my no travel trailer idea.  I mentioned  in a HHM post that we were trying to get my '74 super beetle back on the road.  Wouldn't it be fun to travel in it some day?  Think of all the "friends" you would meet if you pulled into a campground driving a vintage vehicle.  Especially a "slug bug"  (for those who are old enough to remember driving down the road and getting punched in the arm at the sight of them).  :-) The beetles have a very low tow rate, I'm guessing because the motor is in the back.  The weight of an average light weight trailer would be way too much.  I have found a few motorcycle "pop-up" campers that would work for my beetle.           But....if I could find something like this in good shape.....I'd be super excited.  Watch the video below from YouTube that I've drooled over.... P.S. that beetle looks exactly like mine!!!!!!!  Makes sense since it says 1974 in the video :-)
P.S. my Super Beetle is back on the road.  I drive it around town all the time.  It's super fun, kinda like driving a big go-cart.

Summer Heat Busters

Thankfully we have only had about 2 weeks of temps near 100 and heat index well over 100.  God has been good for sure.

One thing I did to help with the summer heat was put construction paper on the window.  It sure was pretty but I'm not sure how well it helped. Probably more than I realized.  Each morning when we got up we would close the window and put the curtains down.

I also added some aluminum foil to the top windows, but I think it added to the heat, plus opening and closing the window it came off pretty quickly.

each evening after the sun went down we would open the window and put the fan in.  Sometimes pulling the cooler air in, other times blowing the hot air out.  By the time we actually went to bed it wasn't too bad.  Still on the warm side, but hubby and I each had a fan blowing across us so we made it.

In the evening we would also put the moving blanket down (the door stayed open) to keep the heat from the rest of the building out and the cooler air in.

We did add a small window AC in the boy's room and had a fan blowing into our room but it didn't do much good, well it wasn't cold like we expected it to be.  It probably helped more than we realized it did.

This past week it cooled off down into the 80's  PTL! and we took the AC out of the window.  So far we have been quite comfortable.  I'd like it to be cooler, but then again we don't have as much trouble going out in the heat since we keep a rather warm "house".
