12 Cast Ons Number 2

I decided to participate in  the #12castons2024 hosted by yarnnyarns  this year.  This is cast on number 2. It is the Nottawasaga Buff By Lucille Maierhofe (free ravelry pattern). I think it will go pretty quick but i may make another one if i like the pattern.  I want to work on my knitting skills a bit more this year.

12 Cast Ons 2024 Project 1

I decided to participate in  the 12castons2024 hosted by yarnnyarns   this year. I know this cast on, which i shared a few posts ago, will last until at least fair time (end of July). I hope to enter it in the county fair.  I an recycling the bread bags from our restaurant and making a tunisian simple stitch plarn (plastic yarn) mat or rug depending on how many loaves of bread we use. Each row (forward and reverse stitches) is approximately 1 bag.  Here is my official cast on entry photo.  I an 5 rows in for approximately 5 bags so far.

I will be making an official video soon, and shading it here too, for this entry.

It is Freezer Defrosting Day

Its freezer defrosting day. I have needed to do this for a while now. I don’t actually use the freezer part just the fridge, I have a bigger freezer to use.  Once it is finished defrosting i am going to give it a good scrubbing. I am also going to set it up on some milk crates to make it taller. (Its a mini fridge if you couldn’t tell).
While it was defrosting i decided to play around with bread bags making plarn (plastic yarn). I have done this before but used an assortment of bags and did not like the outcome because the bags were all different thicknesses. I also didn't like crocheting with the plarn.  So what did i try this time?  You probably guessed it…..Tunisian Crochet!

One complete row is about 1 full bag worth of loops looped together.

Well it looks like it is working ok. I turned it up a notch. I do not want my fridge stuff freezing.

.

For those who are wondering how my foot is …. It is still a bit sore. The swelling is down since Tuesday. I can walk on it with boot on, and without the boot and a crutch.  I think it will be healed in no time.

I Got A New Boot

I have a fancy new boot.  Not
Exactly the kind of boot i would dream of having and wearing.

Last night i missed a step on the way down our stairs. I am 99% sure my ankle is not broken. It is just badly sprained. Reading online at sprain information i am going to say at least a level 2 and more likely a level 3.   No worries if it does not get better i will go to a doctor. Just do not see a reason if i can stabilize it myself, which is what a Dr would do and charge me a pretty penny.

I got on my church ladies messenger and asked for a knee scooter or walker with a seat that i could borrow. I also asked on my FB friends.  By 5:00 today a friend had offered and brought the boot and a church lady is loaning me her walker. Hopefully she does not need it before i am back on 2 feet.

The boot, within a couple hours, had appeared to reduce the swelling a bit.  I have a pair of crutches i am using for now. The walker should be delivered tomorrow.   The combination of the two (boot and walker) should make working this weekend a little easier.  Still will be difficult and a challenge for sure.

Prayers would be appreciated.  Several have already been answered. Quick healing is an important one that i am praying hard about.

January Monthly Challenge is Complete

Anyone else working on the January Challenge?

I finished my hats tonight.

Toddler 1-3 years

6-12 months

3-4 months

There’s literally at the most 2 rows difference on each hat.  The bottom one I planned the colors. The other 2 I randomly pulled scraps out of a bag.

It is time to move on to the next project and also work on that loom knit scarf i have started  I need to generate more scraps. I am pretty much out right now

Too Cold!

BURRRR! I thought it was cold on Friday.  Um Yah it is really cold now!!  It's also snowing and suppose to snow all day.  It is currently 12:40PM and we are at 0°.

Last night i worked on a sleeping WIP. It is s double thick loom knit hat i started last fall sometime.

I am on the second side, which will only be 2 big stripes.  I am using e-wrap.  The yarn is a little on the thin side but I think once I double it up it will be warmer than it looks.  I am doing it like an addi hat.  I worked a little on the loom knit scarf the past couple days and have made a little progress.

9:15pm
Overall we had a good day and weekend despite the wintery weather.  I did finish the hat today.  The loom is a 54 peg. I started with a drawstring cast on and made a total of 80 rows with e-wrap. I finished it off like an addi hat.  The next one i think i will make 90 rows. This one is long enough but just barely.

Here is both sides of the hat:

Slow Friday Thanks to the Weather

Happy Freezing Friday! I brought you a cuppa hot chocolate to warm up with. You are going to need it, trust me. 🥶  It is currently 1:23 pm  and 17° but it feels like ZERO. Burrr!  It was 51° inside this morning at 9am which, compared to outside, felt pretty good. Last time i checked the thermostat said 61°. It is set on 66° but i do not expect it to make it, thus it will run all day.

Our phone/internet has been down since about noon.  It happened right in the middle of taking a customers order. Good thing we have a BackUp plan A and BackUp plan B. Business will continue semi-normally, just no call in orders until service is restored.

Anyway on to happier thoughts.
FOOD 😃

Last night i baked some toffee bites cookies. They are almost gone,  so today i will be baking some double chocolate chip cookies. Gotta keep my customers happy. Plus the oven will help heat it up for a little bit.

Last night i also made a big pot of homemade potato soup.  It definitely is cold enough for soup, but potato is not what the customers are wanting. They keep asking for my homemade chicken noodle.  Honestly i have not had time to make it lately. When i do though, i better make a double batch.

Last night for supper i had a polish sausage with sauerkraut.  Holy smokes was it delicious!  It is currently a limited time menu item and i used this picture to post to the business social media sites to advertise it. (same with the soup and cookies photos)

This morning i fixed waffles for brunch. Mmmm they were good. I prefer waffles over pancakes and french toast 99% of the time.

Enough food til i make cookies later, which i plan to start on as soon as i am finished with this post draft. No worries i will share a picture of them. 😃

Now it is FIBER NEWS🧶

I am almost finished with the second hat for the January Challenge. Yes i planned the colors on this one, but i assure you they were all scraps. 🧶

I also started a loom knit scarf. This yarn is perfect! 🧶

Ok off to make those double chocolate chip cookies …….

Our internet/phone service was restored around 2:00, while i was working on those yummy cookies.

3:30pm Cookies are  baked and ready to sell.  Good thing they are to sell because i could eat the whole dozen myself.

I only baked a dozen but i have enough cookie dough for 1 maybe 2 dozen or so more. I will make them up as these sell

About 4:30
Hubby and i decided to cover up the window AC unit. Dunno why we waited so long. Probably because this is the coldest its been so far this winter. It did help a lot.

After that i got some toys ready to restock one of the redemption games at our restaurant

Around 8:00pm I made an apple crisp for hubby and me to share. It is not very big, i just used 1 apple. We will make it last for 2 meals.

Thanks for hanging out with me today. I hope you enjoyed reading some things i did.  Until next time…….

New Year New Ideas

We are now 7 days into January 2024. I don’t like to set specific goals or make resolutions because I usually hit a bump and fall off the bandwagon pretty quickly. The words Goals and Resolutions me feel like I'm obligated to complete said tasks or fail.

This year I want to make changes instead.  The word Changes doesn’t sound as intimidating. So what “Changes” would I like to make in 2024?

1. I will make a final YouTube video showing the 100 hats for the local preschool. After that video I will probably not post to YT again  I will post any future videos to my Rumble Channel, as well as posting then here on my blog.  Posting the videos here as well allows my blog readers to watch and comment without creating a Rumble account.  You can watch Rumble videos without an account, however you cant’t comment on them.  For me this Rumble/Blog combination is win win for both of us  ðŸ§¶  (I will still watch YT channels/videos  though)

2. I will do my best to make healthier food choices and make healthier meals for Hubby and Myself.  This will also include finding simple recipes with minimal ingredients we both like to eat. It also includes relearning how to cook nearly all meals  from scratch to eliminate most prepackaged, processed foods.

2. I will do my best to walk at least 5,000 steps a day. I know this probably seems low but I have to start somewhere and expecting too much from myself at first can be overwhelming.  Baby steps. I can always up that number when I am consistently reaching my goal every day. To be honest that goal is usually reached or exceeds that goal most of the week. So overall I probably do get 35,000 +  steps in for a week, just not 5,000 every day.

3. I will continue reading my Bible every day.  I have been doing this for several months with almost 100% success.  I tend to get super tired and have trouble focusing when I read, which I know is satan trying to keep me from reading. I started out reading 5 day devotionals on a Bible app. Once i was consistent with that I moved to 7 day devotions and so on. I am current on a 31 day devotional and still “on track”. Praise the Lord‼️  I will continue to use the devotionals and also want to add listening to an audio Bible several days or more a week.

4.  I will keep crocheting and knitting things to donate. The local preschool really appreciates the hats.  I always complain about the amount of work it takes Me to make that many hats. I want to complain less and crochet/knit with a happier heart and better attitude about helping others be warmer in cold weather.

5. Lastly, at least for now, I want to be consistent at blogging here and sharing my yarny projects, progress, ups, and downs, updates, progress, ups and downs on my other changes for this year, and maybe more.  I hope my YT yarny friends I made over the years on YT will join me here at my current “home on the web” and enjoy seeing my projects and ideas. If you have made it this far, make sure you bookmark my blog and check back often so you don't miss anything.

Thank you for stopping by. Leave me a comment, and I will see you soon in another post. (Probably the 100 hat video sometime this week (posted to YT, Rumble, and posted here as well), fingers crossed. 🤞

2024 Monthly Challenge January

The January 2024 Monthly Challenge is make 3 hats, 3 different sizes using scraps.  I think I can do that.  I dug to the bottom of my scraps tote and got the smallest balls I could find.  Let the crocheting begin.  I will be doing my hats with 2 color tunisian crochet using a double end hook.  I will be randomly picking the scraps out of my project bag without looking.  This gives the best unique scrappy look in my opinion.  If it's gonna be scrappy.......IT'S GONNA BE SCRAPPY!

Here's the videos explaining the process if you would like to check them out.
