12 Cast Ons Update

 Happy Groundhog Day!  I seen that Phil didn't see his shadow, however here he would have.  We have sunshine and it is to ne near 70 degrees today.  I am not expecting this nice weather to stick around.  I am expecting another cold snap before spring time.

I am glad  you are here.  Thought  I would share a little update on my projects today and how my foot is doing. 

First off my foot is doing a lot better.  The past 2 weeks I have only been wearing the boot on weekends when I walk a LOT.  During the week I am fine walking on it since i don't walk as much.  My foot does seem to get tired easy though.  

I finished a project this past week.  I finished the loom knit scarf.  I love how it turned out.  I used the full skein of yarn  it's Loops and Threads Fiesta Multi yarn.

I am looking forward to starting a new one soon.  I am thinking about using a different stitch pattern.

Here is an update on the second entry for the 12castons2024 hosted by yarnnyarns  this year.  It is the Nottawasaga Buff By Lucille Maierhofe (free ravelry pattern).  I have made good progress since my announcement for this entry. I think I have about 10 rows before starting the decrease.

And an upodate on my first 12castons entry, the tunisian plarn rug/mat.  this weekend I have 4 bags to add.  They are what we used up last weekend.

I am looking forward to adding them to the project.  This is after the bags last weekend.

12 Cast Ons 2024 Project 1

 I decided to participate in  the 12castons2024 hosted by yarnnyarns   this year. I know this cast on, which i shared a few posts ago, will last until at least fair time (end of July). I hope to enter it in the county fair.  I an recycling the bread bags from our restaurant and making a tunisian simple stitch plarn (plastic yarn) mat or rug depending on how many loaves of bread we use. Each row (forward and reverse stitches) is approximately 1 bag.  Here is my official cast on entry photo.  I an 5 rows in for approximately 5 bags so far.

It is Freezer Defrosting Day

 

Its freezer defrosting day. I have needed to do this for a while now. I don’t actually use the freezer part just the fridge, I have a bigger freezer to use.  Once it is finished defrosting i am going to give it a good scrubbing. I am also going to set it up on some milk crates to make it taller. (Its a mini fridge if you couldn’t tell). 

While it was defrosting i decided to play around with bread bags making plarn (plastic yarn). I have done this before but used an assortment of bags and did not like the outcome because the bags were all different thicknesses. I also didn't like crocheting with the plarn.  So what did i try this time?  You probably guessed it…..Tunisian Crochet!

One complete row is about 1 full bag worth of loops looped together. 

Well it looks like it is working ok. I turned it up a notch. I do not want my fridge stuff freezing.

For those who are wondering how my foot is …. It is still a bit sore. The swelling is down since Tuesday. I can walk on it with boot on, and without the boot and a crutch.  I think it will be healed in no time.

Plarn

Sounds like a naughty word doesn't it?  LOL!  It's not a new concept to me but yet it is.  Plarn is plastic bag yarn.  One of the ladies in my crochet group has challenged us to make a sleeping mat for the homeless.  She has a mission or something like that that makes them and delivers them.  I'm not making a mat right now but I am making plarn!

I haven't counted how many bags I have cut up but I can say it's been 1 regular sized plastic grocery bag stuffed as full as I could get it without them falling out.  It took me most of the evening, with interruptions, to get 2 good sized balls.  They weighed about 2 1/4 ounces each.  That was quite a bit of work for those balls.  It's estimated to make a sleeping mat from the pattern the lady shared you need 500 to 700 grocery bags.

 Today I decided to re-roll my balls of plarn.  That way I can choose to have red/blue or orange/green.  I mostly have the red/blue because it's the grocery I shop at most.  The orange/green will probably just be with what I currently have because that grocery store was bought out the beginning of this year and is changing names and everything.  I'm guessing from seeing their logo that the bags will have red print on them.

Then there is also brown colored bags that we get when we shop at Dillons.  Family Dollar has yellow bags.  Neither of those stores I shop at very often though.  So my stash will probably just be red/blue.

I do have a brown, but's it a much heavier plastic bag.  It comes from our hot dog bun packages.  Right now I just have 3 bags, but there will be more.......
